Doctors describe death from coronavirus

American scientists have reported the presence of two stages in the severe form of COVID-19. A related study by doctors describing the death of patients is published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.

To analyze the impact of coronavirus on the body, specialists at Massachusetts General Hospital studied the described autopsy materials of 24 patients who died from COVID-19. As a result of a detailed acquaintance with these data, doctors were able to visualize the location of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in lung samples from patients with coronavirus.

Based on the data obtained, scientists have found that there are two stages of a severe form of coronavirus. The early phase is determined by high levels of virus in the lungs, as a result of which the body stimulates the expression of genes necessary to trigger an immune response. At the late stage, there are practically no traces of the virus, but the likelihood of death remains extremely high. This is due to the high degree of lung damage.

According to doctors, the course of a severe form of COVID-19 in different people can be different. "The body's response to the virus can be unique, even in different parts of the same lung," said study author Dr. David T. Ting. Also, experts have found that the use of antiviral drugs - for example, remdesivir - can be effective only at an early stage of the disease.

Earlier, Russian doctors assessed the impact of coronavirus on a patient's life expectancy. According to the immunologist-allergist Vladimir Bolibok, the life expectancy of those who have had COVID-19 may be reduced, provided that the patient develops various chronic diseases.
