Review of the old Podolsk sewing machine: reliable and sews great!

No matter how cheap things are now, no matter how close the house is to a store, a sewing machine is needed in the house. I am the owner of an old machine, from the Podolsk factory. Who sees, advises to turn in the antiques, but it works great!

About her, a clever assistant, I want tell in today's review.

My machine is stored in a case, and not simple, but wooden. It weighs about half a kilogram. The machine itself is also not easy - 8-9 kg is definitely in it.

On the side of the wooden base there are boxes. There I keep small things - bobbins, a thimble, a measuring tape and crayon.

But the needles (machine ordinary or pins) to throw there, I think, should not be: tormented to find them, and also prick.

For the needles, I have a cuff attached to the shoulder of the machine.

Separately, already in the closet I store the lubricating oil - with it I smear the machine once a year.

To do this, I first drip oil into the holes on the case, and then into the mechanical parts below.

What I like about the typewriter is solidity - no plastic, all metal parts, and good steel.

Before starting work, I always double-check the threads and make a control seam on a separate patch. Here is one, for example.

First of all, I look at the reel, you need to find out if there are enough threads in it. I insert it into the compartment until silk. The second stage is the upper threading. First, I fix it on a loop of the edge of the machine, then I pass it through the plates and fix it with a metal tooth, and then with a spring. Next - I lead the thread into the pusher and fix it on the case in the corners. And finally, I thread the needle. I do not save with the length of the thread, I take it with a margin otherwise I will have to start all over again.

At the end, you need to connect two threads. To do this, I spin the wheel with my hand (not the handle - it will work too abruptly, but the work requires accuracy) lowering the needle when, when raising the needle, “antennae” appear, prying the tip of the scissors pull them.

And now about the sewing itself. It is difficult to work with thin fabrics on it, not to mention the skin, I heard about special paws, but judging by the reviews on the network, there’s little sense in them. Another thing that is important to know about the typewriter - it only makes a straight line - no zigzag, not to mention stitching loops.

I use it only for hemming thick tissues. What I like about this machine is that it easily takes four layers of jeans or burlap. Another plus is the ability to adjust the speed. There are three of them, and there is also a return stroke.

You can attach the pedal to the typewriter by removing the handle and wheel - I saw it recently in the store, it’s not expensive by the way.

And finally, a little advice to the owners of similar machines: to quickly collect the threads on the shuttle, fasten it on a separate small screw to the side of the wheel and press it with your foot - this is a little work, but I'm sure it will make it easier for you.
